It's been said that a bad day of golf is still better than a good day at work...as an avid golfer, I'll have to disagree. I consider my time on the golf course as prime time and there's nothing more annoying than having a "bad day of golf". Oh, I'm not talking about the score (Although I always feel better and the world's seems brighter when it's low!), I'm talking about paying money to play at a course that's not maintained, is overpriced, has no "atmosphere" and poor customer service. A round of golf is more than just a game...it's about the scenery and getting some fresh air... cracking a cold beer and letting the big dog rip! So for all you avid golfers out there, I've put together a golf guide that hopefully gives you a good feel for what to expect before you get there. Have a great time trying out these courses, and keep your balls in the short grass! --Cyndi

This is a beautiful course set out in the middle of the country that's well worth the ride! Fairly priced and friendly staff are the first two things that I remember. The course was in excellent shape although I must say, the bunkers aren't up to snuff with the rest of the course...they're designed well, they just need more sand and better grooming. But, if you avoid the sand (which really isn't that hard on this course) the fairway and approach lies were outstanding. The fairways and tees are bent grass and the quality is much more in line with that of higher end golf courses. As far as the design goes, the front nine is really staight "hit it and rip it" golf. It's kind of a Scottish Links style, but if you just stay in the middle of the fairway, you can avoid almost every sidehill lie and will have an easy flat shot. The greens have some undulation to them, are nice size and very fair...if you hit a good iron shot, it will definitely stick! The tees areas are well located and give a fair challenge...if you're a good golfer, you'll like the tips here. Pretty shots with mature trees make for some nice scenery on the back nine...one thing that I really noticed while playing was the peaceful surroundings. There's some water on the course, but it's definitely managable if you hit from the right tee box. I'll be playing this course again,,,it was a good price, the course was in great shape, the beverages were ice cold, and it wasn't crowded!
Extra Points:
Great GPS System on carts! Very, very accurate and really helps the pace of play.

What a breath of fresh air to play a course that exudes 1920's charm with modern day
groundskeeping. This very well manicured 18 hole course has many fairways lined with
majestic trees that makes for some really beautiful views from the tee box. The designers
did an excellent job of using the Prairie Creek throughout the course as it comes into
play on 12 of the 18 holes, but yet it's not overwhelming. The small undulating bent
grass greens are in excellent shape and the ball rolls true when you get your put online.
Most of the holes have either fairway bunkers or greenside bunkers, but if you land in
one, there's no need to panic. They use sugar sand here and plenty of it, making for
very consistent sand shots creating some great up and down opportunities. Overall, this
is one of those courses that I could play over and over and not get tired of. It's
challenging enough to keep you on your toes, but not so overwhelming that a weekend warrior
would spend all their time looking for golf balls. The staff was very friendly and
the beverages were ice cold, and the price was outstanding! I would have to say that this
is by far the best bargain I've found in the Midwest so far. So if you haven't tried this
golf course, do yourself a favor and go. Grab your golf buddies and get ready to have a
great day on the links and still have enough money left for the 19th hole!

Personal Review
If you're looking to play a really nice course, Harrison Hills is definitely worth the 30 mile drive from Lafayette! Featuring very plush bent grass fairways and greens, the fairways are tight and long while most of the greens are undulating and elevated. If that's not enticing enough, there's bunkers that you can't see out of in several locations, but I must say, the sand is always in great shape and very fair...you can pull off shots that make you feel like a pro, or end up in the same trap 2 shots later! From the first tee you have a breathtaking view down the first fairway giving way to an elevated green a long way down. Hit it just right and you'll have a nice mid or short iron into the green, but don't miss, it's guarded by bunkers on both sides. The greens are immaculate and fairly quick so you have to be careful, but the ball rolls excellent! Trust me, I could go on and on about this course...it has maybe 3 boring holes and the rest would be considered "signature holes" on other courses. The staff is always very friendly and it's usually not too busy...but if enough people find out about this course being open to the public, that could soon change! By the way, they have a great clubhouse that has excellent Sunday Breakfast. I can't say enough good things about this place...it's truly a hidden gem. So if you've got someone special you want to impress, make a tee time at Harrison Hills!

Personal Review
For a very affordable round of golf, Angel Hill is a good choice. They've made some really big impovements on the back nine to make the layout more interesting, and it's obvious that they're trying to make the course better. It's in good shape (especially for the amount of play they get) and the ball will really run, so you can feel like a champion off the tee. This is a great course if you don't have a chance to play very often or don't hit the ball as far as you use to. The staff is very friendly and they have ice cold beverages and hotdogs at a very reasonable price...so if you're watching the pennies, give this course a try! Angel Hill is great if you have people of different skill levels because it's a fairly easy course course to navigate, and it's always great to have a low score.
